Welcome to our backyard

With travel restrictions preventing us from travelling abroad, there’s no better time to get out and see our wonderful country. Whether you’re planning a day trip or a longer stay, there’s plenty to explore in the Southern Tablelands.

While our factory tours are temporarily on hold due to social distancing requirements, at Lindner Socks we have been fortunate to see a steady flow of visitors to our shop. Many of them are visiting Crookwell for the first time and are pleasantly surprised to see just how much there is to see and do in our beautiful town and surrounding villages.

Shop ‘Til You Drop

If you’re in the mood for some more retail therapy, you can easily while away a morning perusing specialty stores like Crookwell’s gorgeous clothing, gifts and homewares store Top Paddock; the fascinating Ensemble & Co – a wonderfully repurposed historic building now home to a nursery, curated retail stores and coffee bar; the charming Crookwell Footwear and Workwear which stocks a range of iconic Australian brands; or the stunning Eclectopia Gifts in Taralga which showcases beautiful Australian made gifts - just to name a few!

Outstanding Food and Wine

Once you’ve worked up an appetite, there are plenty of options to satisfy even the most serious foodie. We are blessed with some award-winning eateries, like Taralga’s Argyle Inn and Matt’s Bakery and Café in Crookwell. In the fine dining category, the stunning Laggan Pantry is also firmly on the ‘must do’ list.

There are also a number of other outstanding casual eateries, such as the gorgeous Some Café or Kiki’s in the Grove café, both in Collector. We are spoiled for charismatic Australian pubs – such as the immensely popular Laggan Pub, heritage listed Bushranger Hotel in Collector, the Taralga Hotel and Crookwell’s Criterion Hotel – plus lots more.

Once you’ve had a bite to eat, why not visit the award-winning Collector Wines, or if tea is more your thing Crookwell also has a Tea Master, Stephen Carroll, from the Crookwell Tea House and Gallery, who blends an original Crookwell Tea Blend!

Explore the Region’s History and Art Scene

The Southern Tablelands has a rich history, which you can explore on foot, with one of the Heritage Walking Trails. Our region also has a thriving art scene, which you can discover at Gunning’s Picture House Gallery and Bookshop. Operated by iconic Australian actor Max Cullen and his artist wife Margarita Georgiadis, the art gallery and second-hand bookshop features a collection of original paintings, prints, drawings, sculpture and ceramics by local and interstate artists.

Beautiful Accommodation

Once you’ve explored our beautiful region, you’ll need a place to rest and recharge. The Southern Tablelands has a range of accommodation options, from camping and caravanning spots and motels, to luxury B&Bs and holiday rentals. Among them is the beautiful Hold Cottage at Gunning.

Built in 1910 and beautifully restored by husband and wife team, Belinda and Tim, Hold Cottage is located on Gunning’s main street and sits high up on the hill with views across the village. The cottage is a private and fully self-contained home away from home with three bedrooms, one living space, a large eat in kitchen, one bathroom and a mudroom with laundry.

In addition to providing stunning accommodation, Hold Cottage also hosts regular workshops with local artisans, teaching a range of skills from ceramics to embroidery. For future workshops, stay tuned to their Instagram and Facebook page.
